Verse I am meditating on the next two weeks: "Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health even as thy soul prospereth." 3 John 1:2

First Verse: January 1, 2012
Ok, since I tend to be a worrier, it is only appropriate I choose this verse to start the year! It is long though! Glad I have 2 weeks.
"I am not anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, I present my requests to God. And the peace of God, which trancends all understanding, guards my heart and my mind in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7 NIV
New Year, New Mind
Hello! I almost typed "Shalom!" Like Billye Brim says on her radio broadcasts. Made me laugh out loud, cause even though that popped in my head, it isn't like me! Haha!
I am writing this cause God has really been speaking to me recently to memorize AND meditate on scripture. I call this having a reflectant heart by reflecting on the Word :). Most of the time we read the Word, but do we really meditate on it? Do we memorize it? Most think it's too much work and the verses we memorized as children, we forget as we get older. I think John 3:16 and Psalm 23 will be forever engrained in my mind, but many others I have forgotten. I feel impressed that God is calling me and others to a higher standard, for if we aren't meditating on the Word, we are meditating on earthly things. Problems, worry, and fear are often in our minds. We are thinking of what bills we will pay tomorrow or how we will pay them with so little in the account, or what activities we have to do as we have overstretched our time.
I have been reading books by Corrie Ten Boom. She was a prisoner for hiding Jews in World War II. She meditated on the Word. She and her sister had a small New Testament that God provided them in prison, which they read many times while they were there. Corrie had much of the New Testament memorized and scriptures popped into her head when she needed them.
You may say "but I am not living in those conditions so I don't really need the word." We never know what lies for us around the bend in the road, but God is faithful. If we will meditate on his Word, we will find life to be much better than meditating on the cares of this world. We are living in the last of the last days, and I believe knowing the Word is what will carry us through. Joshua 1:8 says "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate therin day and night, that thou mayest observe and do according to all that is written therin, for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success" KJV.
So that said, I have felt led to start this blog, not only for myself, but for others who wish to join me! I will be posting a scripture twice a month that I will be memorizing, one on the 1st of the month and the second on the 15th. I would love for men and women of God to join me on this journey and comment what scriptures they will be working on when I post. Everyone is experiencing different things, so the scripture God has impressed upon you may not be the same as mine or anyone else's. I hope the comments will be full of the Word of God as we meditate on His word together!!! Beth Moore had a blog like this last year so I thought it would be neat since I don't see one for 2012 and this is the first time for me to do this. I will be posting my first scripture next. I will also be keeping a notebook with my scriptures I have learned in it :).
Blessings,
Shari
